Gait Analysis: Simplified for the Practicing Clinician

The gait analysis course is a 3 hours hands-on lab/course. Typically, the course is an add-on to the Lower Quarter PRT course.

In this course, you will:

  • examine common biomechanical faults that lead to somatic dysfunction
  • learn how to identify biomechanical faults through use of video and orthopedic examination in laboratory and
  • learn corrective orthotic and exercises to address biomechanical faults 

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. List 5 common biomechanical faults that cause injury and somatic dysfunction
  2. Be able to describe how at least three biomechanical faults cause injury and somatic dysfunction
  3. Be able to perform a basic video analysis of gait with a hand-held video device
  4. Identify a minimum of three biomechanical faults on video analysis of a patient
  5. Be able to articulate how a gait analysis can be integrated into an overall treatment plan for treatment of somatic dysfunction
